How to make Pav Dhal Makhani

Why did I say Pav Dhal Makhani instead of Pav Bhaji?

I wanted to make some kinda dish that my taste buds were craving for, so I made Pav (bread rolls with butter/ghee) and Dhal Makhani as side dish.

 

Ingredients for Pav:

Bread rolls/ Bun (2 dozen)

Ghee or butter

 Method:

Toast the bread rolls with ghee/butter on a thava (pan)

Tip: Keep it in the microwave and when ready to be served heat it up

Ingredients for Dhal Makahani:

1 onion

8 tomatoes

1.5 cup soaked urad dhal (black gram) – Soaked overnight in 3 cups cold water

1/4 cup Raajma (Kidney beans) – soaked with urad dhal

1 tbsp Chana dhal – soaked with the urad dhal

1 tbsp ghee or oil

1/2 cup fresh cream (thick)

1 tbsp Garlic paste

1 tbsp Ginger paste

2  tsp  tumeric powder

salt to taste

Red chillie powder

Garam Masala

Coriander leaves to garnish

 

 Method:

1. In a hot pan pour the tbsp ghee or oil

2. Cut the onion and grind it into paste,then pour the onion paste into the pan and saute it

3. After the onion becomes goldy brown, grind the tomato into paste and pour the tomato paste and saute it until cook

4. Add the soaked urad dhal, chana dhal and raajma into the tomato/onion paste and let it cook by pouring half cup water

5. After about 10 minutes or so add the fresh cream and all other spicing above and mix well

6. Garnish the dhal with coriander leaves

Eat with warm pav

Serves for 6
