While, I was taking a walk in my garden yesterday afternoon and clicking away photos of nature, I came up to a lonely blue egg on the ground. Couldn’t find a home for it. Not sure if mama bird threw it out of its nest or it fell off while the other eggs were hatching. I just couldn’t leave it on the ground as it was too dangerous with my dogs around. Looked for a nest but I was unsuccessful. I wanted to leave it on a higher ground like in a tree but just thought it to be a bad idea.

Mohan and I work and breed in the plateau of South Africa. We needed a different landscape to refresh our souls and test how physically fit we were, thus went on a weekend getaway to Drakensburg. I have not seen the burgs (berge – mountains) since my fifth grade. It was a memorable but tiring trip. I was so drained at the end of the trip.

It is one of those ‘taste of Africa’ weekends. Reached some high peaks with awesome views, rolled down someContinue reading

I booked a weekend getaway to Drakensburg. It is a five and a half hours drive from Johannesburg. I never really wanted to go to this place since my school trip as the thought of hiking makes me tired but I ended up loving every moment of it. Well, it was exhausting and I did get stiff from climbing those steep hills and valleys but this trip reformed me and made me a better human being. I realised something crucial and I want to put this in bold:

“NEVER UNDER ESTIMATE YOUR POTENTIALS” ~You never know what you are capable of until you try it and don’t let your fears or any other emotions stop you from doing something different and wild.

Ok enough of my pep talk …. 😛

I was having my afternoon nap until I heard a knock at my window, then started hearing more knocks…  Err not the rain – hail AGAIN! This was the third time for the week. I opened up my curtains to the view of my my dogs running into their kennels. To my surprise two of my dogs who are /were arch enemies, sitting in one kennel as if they were long time buds. It was an ‘uncanny’ situation for both my dogs and I.

Say hello to my rottie and the shepherd.

Can these hail stones get any bigger? Well, of course they can. I wonder how many cars were damaged in the open parking lots. How many garden weddings were ruined? 😛 Uhh life goes on..

The look of it was beautiful. My garden was filled with white crystal pebbles.

The stones might have been a disturbance to my sleep but loved the view of it. Now, the sun is shinning so bright as if nothing has ever happened.

Enjoying the afternoon with a cup of tea and Romany creams biscuit.

This evening, I went out to my garden to take a peek at the moon and to my surprise found this creature in my pool. It looked like an alligator in the beginning (I didn’t have my lights on) but ended up being a swift bird…See for yourself!

As swift as a swan (they say). I love the “glow in the dark” eye.

Haha, duck or swan, it shivered me timbers 🙂 🙂

Pinching myself..OUCH!.. Wait am I still in Toronto? Nope, I am in Johannesburg. Looking out my window while typing this post, it is LITERALLY snowing here! Wow, my garden looks so serene, calm and white.  It is so wonderful to welcome the snow into our country. Well, this is the first heavy snowfall in Johannesburg. The snow fall is not continous but it’s better like this. Wish it could snow here more often. Nostalgic feelings overcome my thoughts, missing Toronto.

This is the first time ever for the snow to be falling on and off for upto 12 hours continuous. It was so exciting to see snow for the first time in Toronto. My first experience was there in 2007, but I feel more excited to say that it’s snowing here in my hometown. View the following videos, that I took eagerly with my phone through my window. Take a look at my dog’s reaction..He was clueless 🙂

I apologise for the shakiness of the video. It was taken with my phone and my hands were trembling out of excitement and the cold. It’s sad that this country is not equipped with heating facilities for such cold weather, apart from panel heater or fireplace, but some newly built houses do have underground heating systems. Well, there were no need for such things eg snow shovels, snow blower and so on. If our next winters turn out to be this cold or colder, some experts from other colder countries need to advise us.

Can’t see the snowflakes clearly in this video. I feel like having Mc flurry ice cream oreo flavoured.
